Purple Heart Memorial

Buckeye Chapter 500, Columbus, Ohio, Military Order of the Purple Heart will be dedicating their newly erected Purple Heart memorial at Motts Military Museum on Veterans Day, November 11, 2012, at 4:00. It will follow Groveport’s Veterans Day Memorial Service at Veterans Park which starts at 3:00. This event is free and open to the public.

The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces, who were wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin, in the name of those who were killed in action or died of wounds sustained in combat.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration.

in addition to the memorial dedication, Buckeye Chapter 500 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will be presenting a Military Order of the Purple Heart flag to Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp to commemorate Groveport being designated as a “Purple Heart City”.

By proclaiming Groveport as a Purple Heart City, it officially honors the service and sacrifice of the nation’s men and women in uniform, wounded or killed while serving their country.

A reception will follow the ceremony.
